its a pity the event was so clutterd and failed to show the best of the riders abilities, although it clearly shows pilgrims the best all rounder

If Semenuk landed his flip whip, he probably would of knocked pilgrim off the top spot. This clearly shows Brandon is one of the most well rounded riders being able to throw down in all discipline's. When it comes to the big mountain stuff, Pilgrim is lost. Not saying Pilgrim isn't an amazing rider, but this event was more to his type of riding.

BS's run was very good until he crashed, he gets lots of points because he is so smooth and stylish, Sam threw it down.
Sam's did a suicide no hander onto the first dirt jump (the hip left one), where others just slightly tabled it.
Sam flaired the small ramp to the side when others did nothing on it and could not even get near it.
Granted he only back flip, suicide no hardened the big jump at the end.....

For Big mountain.... Sam on a wee HT getting 2 punctures in his competition runs, does not make him a bad rider.
Lets not forget Sam was the first to do a bike flip....

When talking about all round talent you can't ignore Pilgrims park&street skillz, he absolutely destroys (check the May Zing edit to get the picture). The fact is that large slope style and dirt jump events seem to get almost all the coverage, and the riders who can throw clean truckdrivers on flat or spin 7's off banks don't get as much respect as I think they should. In those cases the huge amount of talent just isn't as obivious as with riders who go really BIG.

It's sure a good thing that these events are there to make our sport known to as many people as possible, but we must also remember that there is much more about mtb riding than just these high profile, people attracting carnivals.

Was just giving an example.
Did Sam not ride Chatel on a small travel Hard Tail, against boys on Dh bikes and came in 9th!
Now that takes some crazy b@lls for that big mountain track.
For real BIG big mountain, only Gee hit the big line at Rampage.
Shame he lost out to a trick from a wooden ramp (not seen one of them ramps up our mountains yet, guess bears make them and not beavers) ;o)

It was pretty digusting that semenuk was given third.

He had 74 points, won fair and square, but was given 6 points for his complete crash on the last jump, I guess the judges just couldn't have semenuk not on the podium...

I agree, watching other events it does seem that they are one sided... I am not saying he is a bad rider! I mean he is amazing! but i thought he under preformed in a couple of events where others throw down!

yeh but you have to put a consistent run together in joyride, and stomp everything. Andreus joyride run was insane and he crashed a flip whip on teh feature and was heavily penalised. the judging here was a little more loose

he tried on of the riskiest tricks in riding, yet he failed to turn around and get a run up for two more doubles. Martin crashed, Martin did the right thing and hit the feature again.

But he is also new to the big competition scene. It would have been very daunting for him being watched by tens of thousands of people. he was also walking with a limp so that might have had something to do with it.

I don't understand how this worked; Semenuk came into the last jump with a score of 74 and crashed on his final trick, but some how his score increased to 80. I thought you didn't get any points on a crashed jump.

I don't get the scoring for his run either. He got a really high score for the drop zone, even higher than pilgrim, yet all he did was a truck driver to table top on the quarter. I think semenuk got a 17.something and sam did a flip to flare or something like that and got 16.something

truck driver is a hell of a lot more advance and better trick than a flip, however i agree on the scoring side and also the commentator was terrible

it was a 3 x up, which is defs harder to do off a flat drop than flipping a step down, and semenuks air table was huuuge. but yes the flair table beat that so its a toss up in my mind

Uv gotta love Red Bull, they have an uncanny nack of providing the perfect auditoriums for our finest to put on a real show for the masses- and our cream of the crop never disappoint. Coming from the flattest part of a pretty flat country doesn't lend itself to winning FMB events but obviously Pilgrim doesn't see it that way! What a legend.

I really liked the Brandon's second run excepting the last jump. But you know that pilgrim doesn't give a chance! I also liked to see Thomas Genon, it was the firts time I saw him riding and he did very well in my opinion. Congrats to all riders.

Brandon's crash looked pretty horrid. If I'm honest though, he didn't seem too enthusiast to begin with, but I don't blame him. Riders in these contests risk themselves while absorbing huge pressure from the sponsors to do well. Sometimes it seems to achieve the opposite results. When I look at some riders, let's take for example The Claw, it very much seems like he only attends to please the sponsors, ie, not risking all of it but just a tad, doing his usual tricks that work most of the time. Not saying anything bad here, just trying to read between the lines (if I may). Nonetheless, all these Red Bull events are very entertaining and I'm guessing that's what it's all about.... and Red Bull ofc !

keep in mind that Claw is coming back from a broken back injury, which wasn't even very long ago at all, so he's been pretty reserved after that this season... it's incredible he can even ride these jumps after what he's been through this season... this type of contest isn't really geared towards his riding style either, compared to something like Rampage where he takes the large risks...

Lack of media access? Them jokers were all over the place, and forget about the "freelancers".(not sure what they like to be called) Could barely get to the railing because of them, except by the booter at the bottom it was a huge area.
