Plattekill Pro GRT 2011 Practice and Qualifying

by Ian Hylands
May 21, 2011 at 16:03

While the initial official results have SLO rider Leland O'Connor with the fastest time today in qualifying, it appears that Justin Leov actually qualified fastest at round three of the Pro GRT at Plattekill Mountain in New York today. There were some major timing issues caused by other riders on the course, leaving the officials with a huge mess to figure out. Somehow in their figuring they ended up with O'Connor beating Leov and Gwin by over 11 seconds, but I think it's safe to say that Leland's time is a little bit off. Either that or he's our next American hope in World Cup DH... Neko Mulally qualified third, giving Trek World Racing the top three spots again. We'll see if they can keep them tomorrow...

Jaqueline Harmony qualified fastest for the women, followed by Darian Harvey and Becky Gardner.

The bad news of the day is that Bryn Atkinson crashed in practice this morning breaking both his femur and his arm, he was airlifted to the hospital for surgery. His Transition teammates Jill Kintner and Lars Sternberg missed qualifying to go to the hospital with him.

Conditions were wet and a little sloppy this morning, but became drier in the afternoon for qualifying.

WOW! To see SLO (San Luis Obispo) even mentioned on here is pretty cool. Way to represent Furbees! And Nate, while there might have been timing issues, we all know what you are capable of - good luck today!

Not bad for a little cow town!

Wow looks like I not the only rider down with broken femur. I'm interested to see what they do for bryon. Most likely bolted some plates and screws with ti hardware. I been in hospitol for 2 weeks with this femur break. I wish him a speedy recovery, and would like to get in contact with him if possible to compare notes on recovery. As far as the race I think gwin going to take win, but look out for platty local geoff ulmer to get in that top ten. Good luck geoff, can't even count how many times me and geoff ran this exact race track. One of our favorite runs.

Leland yes. Guess that "new" bike is doing okay. You retire the Kirkalde dinosaur and come out strong. Good job Ben on 10th! Looks like SLO natives making a statement. Leland I may just have to give you the Banshee. HAHAHAH

No I read a ton. I just know he could have had 6-12 in him during his timed run. Even if he made it down in the slowest time it would be a feat. But good to see the Furbee's up there also.

when i saw the pic for this on the home page, i thought it was 3 riders going at once. I thought it was like the most epic dh race with different lines winding down. But instead it was just a normal race. mmeehh
