Aaron Gwin has won the Mont Sainte Anne DH, Josh Bryceland 2nd, Brook MacDonald 3rd!

The bad weather held off today with just a short shower midday, not enough to dampen anything but the dust, although as I'm writing this thunder is crashing and the rain is pouring down. The big stories of the day would have to include the men's podium, no huge surprise that Gwin won, but the rest of the podium was fairly fresh. 21 year old Josh Bryceland on the World Cup Podium for the first time in second place, 19 year old Brook MacDonald in 3rd place, 19 year old Danny Hart in 4th place, 23 year old Cameron Cole in 5th place, and 17 year old Troy Brosnan in 6th place. That's 3 of the top 6 riders under the age of 20, and the others not much older, and possibly a sign of things to come...

Building something strong starts with a solid base. Crack of dawn for World Cup Finals at Mt St Anne, and Rachel Atherton spent damn near 10 minutes wiping her shoes down and pulling any debris from the inside before even thinking about heading our for training.

Thirteen has not been a "lucky" number for Jill Kintner. +31 and change on the day after a few uncomfortable moments out there on the track.

Capt. Canada showed up for women's XC... he brought some friends for DH. Follow me?

Fabian Cousine getting his head together. Or trying to. Sixty fourth was not the result he was looking for.

Emmeline Ragot may not be able to walk down the track, courtesy of a battered knee; but she can damn well ride it, coming home eighth on the day.

T-Mo started the day off right for Trek...

Robin Wallner keeping it a bit low for the crowd. They were less than excited.

Fabian Pedemanuad putting a show on for the crowds on the middle section of the track underneath the chair.

Pinned and pointed right at the fans. The numbers may have been down a bit from last year's World Champs here at Mt St Anne, but the crowds were still here to witness racing at it's finest.

Slugger gets tucked and stylish over one of the final jumps.

Danny Hart started the new school revolution this year, and ended up on the podium once again this week. He is about as out of control as one can be and still stay up. One mechanic said he thought Danny has just decided he isn't going to fall, that's it.

This is how Gee Atherton's day ended. It was a long walk back down.

Greg Minnaar looked like he was having a fast run, 2nd at the first split by a tiny bit, and fastest rider through the speed trap, but then he had a bit of crash... Dirty and a bit beat up but still good enough for 18th...

Somewhere in that off the bike, Minnaar took a shot to the wrist. X-rays for the Syndicate rider this evening to determine what-if anything-is broken. Martin the Masseur is using a bit of canned ice to prevent swelling at the finish line.

Best track and racing this year so far. Brook set the pace, brosan is a pocket rocket. Hart attack sent it.Rat boys come in to form. bad luck for gee, and gregs mistake and on the pace as well. Gwin is amazing had a mistake but gotta stop be so sore on himself but if thats what drives him then all good. amazing season, gotta love this stuff.

Great commentary, so entertaining. Watching Gwin win for the 4th was seriously awesome. Talk about a humble guy. A great example of sportsmanship and class - a much better spokesperson for Amurca than a lot of us here. Congrats Gwin!

I think France is well ahead of any other country when it comes to producing some of the best riders in the world.

The stocks may have dried up lately but no other country comes close.

One thing is flatting, the other is whether the tyre holds on to the rim after the flat. If you use a full-on tight UST rim with UST tyre, and you put a tube in, in case you are WCup fast, there is no bloody way your tyre will come off. Hard to judge der Baron on pucture resistance comparing to Maxxis products, but no Maxxis would ever come off of the Deemax rim - they are tighter than your ass after someone drops the soap on the floor

And, Danny Hart? Geez! He's one of the most fun dudes to watch ride -- he's like a hurricane, that boy.

Brook...what a run. Fully lit.

Top dogs getting bitten, but that's racing, I reckon. My heart bled for Gee. Ande, I don't think I've ever seen Minnar crash in a race run. It was surreal. He's still in the points game though.

This race season is excellent. Wee-hoo!

Well done to Gwin, he's really stepped his game up this year, he's looking unstoppable at the moment.
Good to see the younger riders doing well, has to be good for the sport.
Ratboy should gain some confidence from the last week or so. First place at HALO BDS Llangollen and now second at a World Cup. Way to go fella.

I believe Minnaar would have won had it had it not been for the step off and crash. No way were those young guns about to get him (his team mate Josh B knows that) Aaron still won even with a huge mistake, but had Greg went clean he would have beat them all by at least a couple of seconds - as would have Aaron if he didn't make that mistake - he had enough time in the bank to still take a win, however small. Better luck next time for Greg and Gee too - not his year.

Today was an excellent day for racing. Freecaster did the best job yet with its coverage and the riders gave more then 100% of themselves. Yes, despite the differences we are having today no one can deny that it was a good day full of upsets and surprise podiums. It no secret that I am proud that Aaron Gwin took first but I am stoked that Miami Brice got 2nd!!! Way to go!
T-Mo shes a beast and she deserves it. Rachel did very well.
It was a good day for racing.

Working with Greg a lot I was devastated to see him crash, he is a good guy and great competitor. Great to see the young racers stepping up though! All 130 pounds of Troy, Bryceland finally living up to his potential, Gwin on fire and Brooke out of no where this year to a couple of great finishes! Great racing!

Yeah, but to be fair, Gee did smash a rock into his, most spokes would probably have problems with that.
I just think that the Continental tyres aren't working as well as a lot of the rest of the field, and it's caused Gee a number of problems this year.

Well to be honest, at this race Gee's wheel stood up incredibly well. His tire flatted and he kept riding until it became so wrapped up in the drive side that it would no longer turn. There were some huge dents in the rim from racing with the flat tire, but it looked mostly straight and with no broken spokes at the finish.

peterman, i use the free dental care and health care in the UK, though obviously if you go private (which i have done for complex things) you get better service. For routine checkups, i'd rather go free than pay £35 or so each time, wouldn't you?

USA sure you hav gwin, what of it? i dont see many others coming up, get out of your own arse your not great. yes UK does have a lot, but still not the best. AUS have produced a good amount, biggest mention to hill and probably brosnan in the near future. NZL have a lot of riders up there for a smaller country, brook, blenko, cole, leov etc.. SA have minnarr, neethling. CAN have smith. and the list goes on.

gotta say, not a huge fan of gwin. doing great this year, but i love seeing guys like hart, brook, brosnan up there. devostated that minnar crashed out

If you love mountain biking then you should love it when an American wins - because that's what brings more coverage and therefore money to the sport and gets more people buying bikes and more bikes being made and prices coming down and more money for R&D and the list goes on and on. Lance got fat dudes off the golf course and on the bike.

We don't need any more of coverage in mountain biking. Machine dug bikeparks pop up like mushrooms after the rain. Mountains are already overcrowded with brakeburners, doing nothing but destroying trails for those who can ride a bit. More coverage in this sport will only mean more brake bumps - so think twice!

I love this huge 'boost' for American DH, when the fact remains that it's been sixteen years since there was an American in the overall top three. Also, there are four UK riders who you wouldn't be surprised to see on a podium whereas Gwin is the only American who could really get a look in. Yes, Gwin's an absolute pinner, and it's great for the sport to see such an awesome talent come through, but if everyone's going to come on here talking about it in terms of nationalities, which they have, you've got a lot of catching up to do.
