Monster Energy White Style 2012 - Preliminary Riders list announced

Dec 22, 2011 at 10:58

Leogang, Salzburger Land (AUT), December 20th 2012 – Bit by bit the starter’s line up for the sixth Monster Energy White Style presented by Kona, taking place on January 27th comes to visible forms. And the legendary slopestyle contest on snow promises again to become a high-class event, featuring many top riders.

Though not all riders know for sure, what to do instead of participating the Monster Energy White Style in Leogang, the fans can already look forward to a prominent base of riders:

The two times titleholder and Monster Energy rider Sam Pilgrim from Great Britain doesn’t want to miss his chance to safe his third White Style victory in a row. He brings up some friends and in Leogang well known riders from UK, Lance McDermott and Sam Reynolds. As well British, but already in Austria: Grant “Chopper” Fielder, regarding Leogang almost as a home match, because of his function as course designer for the last couple of years.

Keeping up the Austrian banner on his own, Niki Leitner from Vienna is again the only Austrian starter in 2012, but counting on a special support from his fellow countrymen. No proper Monster Energy White Style without the Swedish giant Martin Söderström and the French warhorse Yannick Granieri. After quite a few tries, both are absolutely willing to leave Leogang in 2012 on top of the podium.

But the coming Monster Energy White Style also offers some upcoming young talents the chance to demonstrate, how tight the performance level has pulled together within the professional scene. Riders like Thomas Genon from Belgium, Louis Reboul from France, Teo Gustavsson from Sweden or the young Polish high flyer Szymon Godziek already showed their skills during the FMB World Tour 2011 with some persuasive performances and proved once again the high level of vitality in this sport.

Here the preliminary rider’s line up:

Niki Leitner AUT
Martin Söderström SWE
Louis Reboul FRA
Teo Gustavsson SWE
Antoine Bizet FRA
Thomas Genon BEL
Yannick Granieri FRA
Tomas Zejda CZE
Grant Fielder GBR
Jan Netrval CZE
Sam Pilgrim GBR
Jakub Vencl CZE
Sam Reynolds GBR
Szymon Godziek POL
Lance McDermott GBR

The final, on January 27th 2012, starting at 8:30 pm, will shed light about which riders are already introducing themselves for the next season. In the meantime let’s count on St. Peter to offer us an acceptably wintery scenery, at the moment all signs tend toward snowfall.

Monster Energy, Kona, the Bikepark Leogang and all other partner of the White Style 2012 wish joyful holidays and a happy new year to all riders, fans and other bike fellow traveler and are looking forward to a great event in Leogang.

Even though the riding list isn't as stacked as I hoped for, this event is gonna be sick like always. I'm guessing Pilgrim or Granieri for the win

we obviously understand what preliminary means, I'm just saying that no matter who they add, Söderström, Granieri, and Pilgrim will be top 3 because they have the most experience in this event

Ummm.... I really hope you're kidding because you'd have to be pretty stupid to think my comment was meant towards you and not all the other kids wondering why certain people weren't invited... Come on now.

Dont write of Reynolds for the podium, the guy killed it last year. Went down to pilgrim by half a point after crashing on his second run

The white style event is awesome, have been there three years in a row. My favorite comp in Europe together with the Mountain Style & District Ride maybe also Nine Knights, but ist more a session than a contest.
Anyway, main problem for riders from no EU countries is ether the travel budget (if they come abroad & spend money for the flights, they prefer to stay for a few weeks and compete not only in one contest) and riding a slopestyle comp on snow is still quite a challenge.
Other problem for guys like Vishneviy is the visa -> it's a pain in the ass for the russian guys being able to leave the country, a loooot of paperwork to do, and also money to spend.
I think most of the big names are saving money and energy to compete at FMB World Tour ranked events in the main season.

expensive for north american/canadian riders to travel for one event, and there's a lot of talent in that list. other riders might be added soon, but some of the big names on your continent ay well just save the travel fees and train for the fmb world tour.
