La Bresse World Cup 2011 - Minnaar and Moseley win!

by Ian Hylands
Aug 7, 2011 at 8:10

Greg Minnaar and Tracy Moseley have won the La Bresse World Cup, followed by Gee Atherton and Aaron Gwin in the men's, and Floriane Pugin and Sabrina Jonnier for the women. With his 3rd place finish at La Bresse Aaron Gwin has become the first American to ever win the overall World Cup Title, and the first person to secure the title before the last race since 2000.

Big Minnaar is the only man to have beaten Aaron Gwin this season doing it twice now. Greg was killing it all day absolutely pinned through the second steep section where many were struggling. Never bet against him...

The predicted rains finally fell Saturday night and it was almost biblical in proportions at times. Sunday morning was a whole new ball game. Full spikes deep ruts and HUGE puddles. Troy Brosnan was one of the first down and got the full mud treatment.

Tracy Moseley on her winning run. The gap now between her and Floriane is exactly 250 points. Pretty much Tracy just has to roll across the finish line at Val di Sole and the overall is hers. But if for some reason she was unable to either qualify or race the season could potentially be a tie.
With 150 points between Tracy Moseley and Floriane Pugin, Moseley does not have the title completely locked up. Yet. But the way she's been dominating of late, the World Cup overall DH title will most likely be hers at Val di Sole.
Cam Cole on his finals run.

Gwin only needed top 8 to take the overall. I'm sure he went a little easier than he had to. No doubt he wanted to win, but I think that wreck at ft. william is still on his mind, and didn't want to blow it by going loose.

Martin Whiteley was saying (and Gwin has said it himself) in the Freecaster commentary that Gwin is just out to win and didn't even know about the points before the race. He looked like he was making a lot of mistakes, to be honest I think the track and conditions just didn't suit him. He's an amazing rider but he's been lucky this year with the tracks as they've all played to his strengths, I'll be interested to see how he does at Champery as that couldn't be more different to PMB/Fort Bill/Windham.

if gwin was in third and gee was second then that means gee beat him as well. just pointing it out that its not only minnaar who can beat gwin.
  • + 3
flag manchicken (Aug 7, 2011 at 12:26)
I think what it means is that hes the only man to have taken wins away from Gwin. If you go by your logic 3 more people have beaten him

flag bigfootrider10 (Aug 7, 2011 at 12:47)
yeah but even so, if minnaar never even raced, gee was still a faster time thus the win would of still been taken away. however i do understand what you mean im just being picky today.

Still worth watching, even if you do know the results. A lot of drama today. Good race.

Barel explained in a interview that since his last big injury, he had been thinking about quiting racing and, even though he felt he "could" still be riding for 1 or 2 years he wasn't feeling like it, and has new project that would require his full time attention..so it was time to stop.
