Bearclaw Invitational 2011 - Course Walk and Practice

by Ian Hylands
Aug 5, 2011 at 1:37

After a few last minute modifications the course is done and the riders managed to get in a few practice runs this evening...

the small step up from the start onto the skinny...
The course starts with a small berm and then a small step up onto the North Shore Skinny.
The North Shore Skinny actually has some skinny bits and a corner as well...
This years skinny actually is skinny, and it has a corner in it as well. While a few of the riders took a while to wrap their heads around it pretty much everyone was riding it with no problems by the end of the day.
The view from the end of the skinny looking down at the long low and the boner log
After the skinny the course drops into a long low jump that sets you up for the boner log.
after the drop off the skinny there is a long low that sets you up for the boner
The view looking back at the skinny drop and the long low...
Nice clicked look back off the boner log
after the long low is the requisite boner log. Darren started the whole boner log thing, and this one is awesome...
Lawrenuk with a little steeze off the boner
looking back up the course, Eric Lawrenuk sends it off the boner log...
after the boner log there is a left hand hip that sends you into the step up step down
from the boner log the course goes right and into a left hand step down hip
From the run in the step up goes way up and straight up...
From the run in the step up goes way up, and straight up...
Step up
Justin Wyper steps up...
Yannick dropping off the step up step down
Yannick Granieri drops off the platform and into the first of two big jumps...
The guys watch from the drop as Darren moves the landing of the drop back a few feet to slow things down a bit...
Darren spent a bit of time working on the landing of the drop today, pushing it back a few feet to slow things down a tiny bit before the jumps...
Brandon Semenuk whipping huge on the last jump.
After the drop there are two big jumps, Brandon Semenuk shows us just how big they actually are, whipping more than sideways...
Aggy with a crazy super seater Indian on the last jump.
Aggy stretches it out on the last jump. From here the course goes into a huge quarter pipe, Anthony Messere has already been blasting huge out of the QP, pictures of that tomorrow...

The problem with joyride is that they started the build to late so the coarse they planed they didn't Evan make and you don't need multiple lines for slope style bearclaw invitational is what slopestyle should be monster energy slopestyle was better

Definitely a complete and amazing slopestyle course, Berrecloth really knows how this stuff is all about. It will be so amazing to watch how riders will manage to trick every jump.

I was thinking "dude, I'd love to hit this course" then I saw the f*cked up huge step down hip jump into sketchy looking step up onto a platform far too high up for anything but birds and squirrels.

I love the fact that you need to have so many different riding skills to hit the course and not just hit big jumps. Going to be insane this year!

It´ll take massive testicles to ride this course... some i reckon will loose their testicles if they fall off those ramps.

Every rider should be required to wear a "cape" on this course! Flying high!!

Haha, I imagined that in my head and saw someone doin a 360; the cape got stuck in their fullface visor somehow and caused em to eat shit lol

Do we have a video of Semenuk doing that whip? if it was on a full suspension bike it would be up there with the vander-whip in Roam. Awesome course, so much better than Joy Ride.

flag choppertank3e (Aug 6, 2011 at 0:24)
My understanding is that Trek doesn't make a slopestyle bike. Both Brandon and Cam have their own custom frames which you can't buy and they are both different travel and geo. Just like Watt's old Gary Fischer and whatever Scott made Lance McDermott before they made the voltage FR. Slopestyle bikes like 4cross bikes just don't sell well. Who wants a short travel 30+lb bike with 1-10 gears (shifted from the bottom tube in Brandon and Cam's case) on the trails? Dirt Jumper's don't like suspension and most riders would want slacker headtubes and more suspension just to ride these courses like Sorge had at joyride. Still Brandon and Cam both deserve signature bikes.

Isn't the Trek Scratch a slope bike?

flag Rideslots (Aug 6, 2011 at 9:10)
you could probs use it as a slope bike, but it is more of a freeride/shore/BigHit bike...
  • + 1
flag Bjammin (Aug 6, 2011 at 9:42)
Cam and brandon both have custom slope bikes from trek, based off of the Scratch. They say scratch in them, but they are really different, for instance no full floater, and completely different geo and suspension. I Know this cuz I rode it.

flag Shorekid3 (Aug 6, 2011 at 10:17)
It's s remedy ss complete costume I saw it it's say remedy or it only says trek it's not run as a scratch it looks it but it's not if it's not a remedy anymore it's an ss

flag Bjammin (Aug 6, 2011 at 19:29)
I don't have a pic to prove it, so ur gonna have to take my word, but at highland mtb park, semenuk loaned one of his slope bikes to a guy who works there, and I got to check it out. it says scratch, although it is nothing like a scratch or remedy.

flag Rideslots (Aug 6, 2011 at 21:12)

flag Bjammin (Aug 7, 2011 at 10:06)
think what you want. I'm talking about what i guess is a spare slope bike (older fox suspension, no sponsor stickers) that he didn't need while competing, so he loaned it to this guy at highland. This is the exact bike I'm talking about (he changed the suspension to fox tho): http://lh4.ggpht.com/_VkOJGdE-cok/TAcrQvC2Y9I/AAAAAAAAAK4/7AxZASr4fKw/brandon_bike.jpg

oh wait I'm just looking at the pic again and that isnt the same bike. just the same exact paint job. his bike was shorter travel and wasn't full floater. whatever. i'm done believe what you want
